Of course, a major part of Naruto's world consists of the various ninja skills called jutsus, and Naruto: Rise of a Ninja takes full advantage of these ancient abilities.

An important aspect of exploring Konoha is that the further you progress through Naruto: Rise of a Ninja, the more secrets of the Leaf Village you can uncover. Again we saw similarities to Crackdown in that Konoha contains a large amount of areas that are too high for a budding Genin (lowest ranking ninja) to reach, but become accessible as you gain experience and power. By making the game an open-world affair (similar in many ways to Crackdown), they've introduced a sense of exploration and discovery while enabling Naruto to dash around as nimbly as fans would expect.Īs the stage for Naruto's epic tale, Ubisoft Montreal crafted an incredibly accurate map of Naruto's hometown of Konoha and the surrounding environs (such as the Forest of Death where the Chunin exams take place). Part of what Ubisoft Montreal did to embody the violence-saturated world of Naruto in the typically staid RPG environment was to throw an additional genre into the mix.

In a series that revolves around lightning-fast ninja combat, the thing that we were the most curious about was how the team working on the game could wrap all this fighting action into a compelling RPG.

As serious Naruto fans, we were still a bit skeptical that our plucky ninja hero could make it in the RPG world, but all of our fears were stomped into the floor after seeing the game in action during our visit to Ubisoft Montreal just a couple short weeks ago.
